ICAO-Alphabet

In 1956, the ICAO implemented this phonetic alphabet in order to avoid misunderstandings during radio or telephone conversations. When implementing the alphabet it was considered that the words sound different and are easily pronounced by all people in the world. The alphabet is also known as NATO Alphabet as it is also used by the marine and most of the western armed forces. Besides the usage in radio communication, it also serves as identification for positions and key words.
